Reserveage :: Green Lifestyle
Green Lifestyle What does it mean to live green and why is it important? Our planet, which has supported life upon it for millennia, has begun to show signs of stress: the ozone layer, a weaker magnetic field, global warming etc. How is it that something so long-lived is now suffering? According to experts, we are partially responsible for our planet's degeneration. We can, each of us, examine our lifestyles and choose what to change. We can't entirely blame ourselves because we simply didn't know better, but now we do, and now we must do what we can! Thanks to modern science and technology, we have all the knowledge and resources needed to preserve our planet. Whether it's big or small, every effort will add up and eventually all of our individual efforts will amount to something larger than their parts. Given the chance, the Earth has the incredible capacity to heal and renew itself. This is why we must take heed of the warning signs now and change whatever we can in our own lives. Our society has developed a dependency on irreplaceable fossil fuels, whose function for the Earth's health is as of yet undiscovered. The consequence of this is a weakened ozone layer. Furthermore, we have cut deep into the rainforest where many of our medicinal plants originate, in order to create pastures for the herds of the fast food industry. The medicinal properties of these rare plants are mimicked in many of the medications available today. Infringing on the world's rainforest not only harms the world’s delicately balanced ecosystem, for the rainforest is considered to be the Earth's lungs, but it also impedes the medical profession from obtaining invaluable medicinal information found only in this irreplaceable source. We have developed a dependency on synthetic fertilizers, chemical herbicides and pesticides to increase production of our global food supply. The chemicals remain in the Earth's soil and, after consuming non-organic food, in our vital organs. Once again, we find that when the planet is healthy, so are we. |
